With a 7 billion USD turnover, fruit and vegetable exports are predicted to break all previous records this year, with the Mekong Delta’s fruit granary playing a major role.
Fruit and vegetable exports are predicted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to reach almost 780 million USD in June 2024, making the total export turnover for the first half of the year 3.5 billion USD. Fruits and vegetables are the most popular agricultural exports.
Because the majority of gardeners anticipate that the Mekong Delta’s specialty fruit will lead the fruit and vegetable export group’s export turnover. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reports that durian export revenue surpassed 450 million USD in May 2024 alone, up 34% from the same month the previous year and 107% from the preceding month.
Coconut is another fruit that has recently helped to increase the export turnover of other vegetable categories. This year, in particular, it is anticipated that this fruit would help boost export turnover when drinking coconuts are formally exported to China.
The average yearly export value of processed coconuts is $300 million USD, according to Mr. Huynh Quang Duc, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ben Tre Province. “When fresh coconuts are officially exported, this number will increase,” Mr. Duc said.
